Wild animals in human care, as well as domestic animals for agricultural production, are often exposed to environmental changes (eg capture and transport). Acute or short-term physiological indices (eg, heart rate, respiration, body temperature, immune cells, and hormonal biomarkers of stress) provide crucial information about the responses of animals to new environments, and could provide crucial determinants long-term. -term health and welfare of animals. This special issue includes experimental research articles showing the applications of physiological indices and welfare assessment methods (eg, morphological and morphometric data, behavioral assessments, thermal profiles, and physiological markers) in any production animal or wildlife. (eg, Rescued and rehabilitated animals, pets, competition animals, farm animals, and zoo animals), in response to environmental and management-related factors. The goal is to provide examples of new research and techniques that can be used to monitor the short- and long-term environmental adaptation of animals in human care.
