Improving skills development in the informal sector

Against a backdrop of steady economic growth despite global economic uncertainty, Sub-Saharan Africa’s prospects have been rising in the twentyfirst century. More children are surviving infancy and early childhood and are able to attend school, and the burden of infectious diseases is decreasing. As the share of young people in the population is now rising in many African countries, it is more critical than ever to make key investments in human capital—in improved health and education, particularly for women and girls, and robust social safety nets to help cut poverty and keep children in school.
