Some frustrated business heads starting in the 1970s insinuated that older Rustbelt centers including Cleveland, Ohio were finding themselves losing their once decided economic advantage to other, more mindful Sunbelt communities. The fire on the Cuyahoga River in 1969 occurring in the wake of the recent Hough and Glenville riots seemed to support their opinions. However, they were very much wrong in that regard. Cleveland, OH remains a foremost center for Fortune 500 headquarters right into the 2020s.
